In D.C., Sept. 25th: Biznow breakfast symposium on relations between law firms and corporate law departments

In D.C. this Friday, September 25th, Biznow is sponsoring a breakfast symposium on the rapidly changing relations between law firms and corporate law departments.

Joining the discussion will be the heads of three top US law firms: Eric Friedman of Skadden, Bruce McLean of Akin Gump, and Tom Yannucci of Kirkland & Ellis.  Topics will include:

–  alternative fee arrangements, fixed fees, performance incentives;

–  use of junior associates/contract attorneys and new guidelines for staffing of legal activities

–  higher expectations for results and delivery of services;

–  improved communication;

–  consolidation of vendors

It will be held at the Council on Foreign Relations, 1777 F Street NW, DC.  It only costs $39.  Full details can be obtained by clicking here.

We were intrigued because Bruce McLean was recently quoted as saying the new era introduces questions like whether entering classes will be much smaller, whether firms will employ a much larger cohort of contract attorneys not on tract to partnership, and what further work will be outsourced like document production is today.

So if you have $39, and the time, check it out.
